Current Projects

While known to enthusiasts worldwide for our selection of Jaguar spare parts and accessories, you might not know that XKs Unlimited also operates one of the world’s leading Jaguar service and restoration facilities. You can read much more about our shop’s capabilities elsewhere on this site, but the photo galleries below document our expertise as they follow current restoration projects; we will update them on an almost daily basis as each job progresses. Also review our Gallery of Past Projects.

1971 E-Type FHC 2R.28534. This very late Series II FHC arrived in March for a mechanical freshening and new paint and interior. It has been stored under a tarp since 1984 but is a remarkably solid example. Click here to read more about the restoration.

1967 E-Type FHC Chassis number 1E.34054 just arrived for an extensive list of high performance modifications to the engine, exhaust, brakes and suspension. We’ll also rebuild the independent rear suspension assembly and replace the front sub-frames. At this point, it doesn’t look like any cosmetic work will be undertaken.  Click here to read more about the work being done to this E-Type.

Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 As we’ve mentioned before, XKs Unlimited does not work on “just” Jaguars. This Austin-Healey is a good example of the other classics that frequent our shop. This is not a total restoration by any means, but we’ll rebuild many of the components and systems to get the car roadworthy. Click here to read more about the work being done on this car.

1954 XK-120 RoadsterThis newly restored XK-120 roadster was in a couple of months ago for some post-restoration fine-tuning (it was not restored by XKs Unlimited) but has since been sold. The new owner has requested a five-speed transmission conversion and custom work to better accommodate taller drivers. Click here to read more about the restoration.

1966 Mini XKs Unlimited is about more than “just” Jaguars. Over the years we’ve worked on a wide variety of modern classic sports cars, from Austin-Healey to MG and from Ferrari to Porsche. This Mini started out as a rather humble 850, but it’s now anything but. Click here to read more about the restoration.

E-Type 2+2 7E.76791 This late Series I 2+2 E-Type is in the shop for a five-speed transmission conversion and a number of mechanical repairs, including re-sealing the engine, a full carburetor rebuild and replacement of the heater transfer pipes behind the firewall, err, front bulkhead. Click here to read more about the restoration.

XK-140 Roadster This XK-140 is suffering the same fate as just about every other XK: rust has slowly eaten away at the sills and hinge- and shut pillars. This will not be a body-off restoration but Mel is confident he can give this XK-140 its strength back. Click here to read more about the restoration.

E-Type FHC 888985 This late 3.8-Liter E-Type Fixed Head Coupe came in to the shop in late November 2010 for evaluation and consultation. We learned that the car has been in the same Southern California family since new and that the car is now under the stewardship of the original owner’s son. As is so often the case, the original owner parked the car about 20 years ago when he found it too difficult to drive. Click here to read more about the restoration.

1973 E-Type V-12 Refinish This 1973 E-Type V-12 is in our paint and body shop for the full spa treatment: strip to bare metal and repaint. The sheet metal is in remarkable condition. Click here to read more about the restoration.

1973 Porsche 911T Targa Our paint and body shop has completed many non-Jaguar projects over the years. Case in point is this classic pre-safety-bumper Porsche. In fact, this is the third 911 we’ve worked on in recent years. This particular example is only in need of paint and it looks like a remarkably straight and accident-free project. Click here to read more about the restoration.

Jaguar MK X Saloon Easily the most complex of all “Classic” Jaguars, this MK X saloon is in for a complete restoration, which is a rather daunting task given the scope of the project and the “plus-size” body and interior. It’s a very original and complete car, but the big question is what we’ll find upon removal of the “bass boat silver” paint. Click here to read more about the restoration.

E-Type 1E.16558 “Jane” This 1968 E-Type Coupe – named “Jane” by its owner – came in with some serious problems. She was barely running, emitting a plume of black smoke and had an engine rattle reminiscent of a bowling ball in a cement mixer. We weren’t sure what we’d find, but we knew it would be interesting.Click here to read more about the restoration.

E-Type FHC 888948 This late 3.8-Liter Coupe is being restored by XKs Unlimited owner Jason Len. It’s a pretty rough starting point as the rust is, well, significant. We’re not exactly sure of Jason’s plans for the car, but you can bet it will be something special when completed. Click here to read more about the restoration.

Miscellaneous Shop Projects Not everything going on in the shop is a full-boat restoration. Check out this gallery to see some of our smaller, but no less interesting, projects. Click here to see more.
