The XKR-S Convertible made its global debut at the Show. Unveiled by Adrian Hallmark, Global Brand Director, Jaguar Cars, it’s the fastest and most powerful convertible Jaguar has ever created – capable of accelerating from rest to 100mph in just 8.7-seconds before reaching an electronically limited top speed of 186mph.

The XKR-S Convertible joins the XKR-S Coupé as the most focussed vehicle in the Jaguar range. In the US market, buyers have begun to take delivery – the 2012 model year allocation car is already sold out.

Making its North American debut was the C-X16 Production Concept – specially finished in Neutron White pearlescent paint for the Show. Equipped with a powerful Hybrid system complete with a ‘push to pass’ system linked to a 3.0-litre V6 engine, the C-X16 mixes performance with efficiency to create a forward looking, thoroughly modern sports car that marks an evolution of the Jaguar design language.

C-X16 is a ‘One plus One’ sports car concept

Jaguar’s C-X16 production concept today made its North American debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Ahead of its appearance at the show the all-aluminium C-X16, finished in Neutron White, added a future-looking aspect to the contemporary LA evening skyline on East 6^th Street Bridge having first prowled downtown on Mesquit and Matteo Streets.

“As it’s an indication of how a Jaguar sports car may look in the future, we’re eager to gauge the reaction to the C-X16 here in the important North American market, and the Los Angeles Auto Show provides us with the perfect platform to do so”.

A stunning vision of Jaguar’s future intent in the sports car segment, the C-X16 features perfect 50:50 weight distribution and a prototype hybrid powertrain comprising a 380PS (280kW), 332lb ft (450Nm) supercharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine, allied to an electric motor producing an additional 70kW and 235Nm (equivalent to 95PS and 173lb ft). Driving the rear wheels through an eight-speed transmission, this hybrid powertrain gives the lightweight C-X16 the potential to accelerate to 62mph in 4.4 seconds before going on to reach 186mph.

The C-X16′s Neutron White aluminium bodywork is wrapped as tightly as possible around its advanced mechanicals, its lithe stance highlighting its dynamic ability. The use of simple but purposeful lines allied to a low sweeping roof and tail give the C-X16 a muscular but sculptured look that can only be a Jaguar.

Finishing in Los Angeles,California on Monday, November 14, the journey – the equivalent of travelling from London to the Sahara – took in 11 states, three time zones and eight days. Yet the XF only required four stops for fuel – its peak economy of 67 mpg being achieved on the penultimate day of the trip.

Paul Alcock, XF Project Manager, Jaguar Cars, who was present throughout the journey, commented: ‘This project was designed primarily to test the potential economy of the XF 2.2. The incredible figures achieved by the car were accomplished through making every element of the new XF as efficient as possible – from its aerodynamics to its four-cylinder 2.2-litre diesel engine linked to an eight-speed gearbox. The whole XF team is incredibly proud of what’s been achieved and is a graphic demonstration of the strength, engineering integrity and efficiency of the car.’

Driven by independent testers, David and Alexander Madgwick, the XF 2.2 was a scrupulously standard UK registered, right-hand drive vehicle. In the course of the coast to coast adventure, the car maintained an average speed of 53 mph incorporating a multitude of real-life scenarios including the busy roads exitingNew Yorkand, towards the end of the trip, enteringLos Angeles, road works, high winds and a climb to 7,275 feet above sea level.

Despite such efficiency, the XF 2.2 maintains the levels of performance and efficiency expected of a Jaguar. Capable of seating five adults in comfort, it’s equipped with leather trim as standard as well as a touchscreen display and climate control.  The XF is capable of accelerating from rest to 60 mph in 8.0-seconds before reaching a top speed of 140mph.

The project has been broadcast live on Twitter and on Facebook as Jaguar’s Senior Press Officer, Faye Goldstraw, travelling in a support vehicle, charted the progress of the car as it crossed America.
