At
XKs Unlimited, we have the capability to restore vintage automobiles to
any specification a customer desires, from strictly original to highly modified.
Many customers want what we’ll call an “upgraded original,”
or a car that retains the look and character of the standard automobile
but with upgrades to enhance performance and reliability.
From a few paces, the XK-140 pictured here looks totally original, until, of course, one notices the front disc brakes (XK-140s were supplied with drums) or takes a look at the cockpit or engine compartment. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves.
This British Racing Green example first received a full, frame-off restoration
in our workshop, where we powder coated the frame and either plated or powder
coated the suspension. Our body shop built all-steel doors, replacing the
wooden under-structure that’s a 
well-known
weak point on XK dropheads. This is a good 
example
of how our personnel are able to take restoration to the next level and
make a finished product that’s superior to the original.
The completely refurbished interior -- finished in cinnamon leather with contrasting green piping -- also represents a key XKs Unlimited capability. We can incorporate modern audio equipment, air conditioning, or later seats and make them look factory original. By the way, if you’re contemplating replacement of your drophead’s top and headliner, be sure to retain the services of someone who has done the job before; it’s a difficult task and the learning curve is steep.
